Devlog 2 - Astrohaulers (Pre Launch)

Welcome back to the Fern Sprout Studios Devlog!

These past few weeks have been busy. In two weeks we have cycled through 7 different builds of the game, almost double the amount of builds in the previous month and a half of development. 

Let's give a basic rundown for those who haven’t playtested the game:

Astrohaulers is a logistics strategy arcade style game that takes place in space. The gameplay involves making connections between space stations and directing spaceships to pick up packages from other space stations and deliver them to their corresponding station before the timer expires on the package. The goal of the game is to get the most points possible by delivering the most amount of packages.

Now, a list of changes and additions:

  • Controls for connecting stations were changed, and then later reverted after testing. Camera controls were added to allow for better player movement and to enhance the parallax effect.
  • Level selection was fully implemented, with hard and easy modes for each level. Each level has a different space station layout, as well as ambient environment.
  • The “wave system” was implemented, which notifies the player of distinct waves of packages. The player can change station paths during wave periods. New sound effects  and UI were added for this as well.
  • Ship queuing/pathfinding and auto pickup were added, which allow ships to be queued to fly to any station on the map regardless of current position. Ships can also automatically pick up packages when arriving at a station.
  • Menus have been polished, sound effects for menus have been added, credits have been mostly implemented, and sound controls in the menu have been added as well.
  • Packages now have audio cues to tell the player when a package is almost gone/destroyed.
  • Lots of bug fixes!
